The bumper (12) has a set of shock absorbers (22A, 22B) interposed between a cross-piece and a car body. An upper half-shell (44) and a lower half-shell (42) are provided in the bumper. The upper and lower half-shells are provided with a cross-piece portion (50). A forming part of the cross-piece is extended from a transverse end (24) and an opposite transverse end (26). Two portions of another set of shock absorbers (52A, 52B) form parts of the former set of shock absorbers. The half-shells are made of composite material.
