Improving the compressive strength of a cured hydraulic composition, comprises (a) contacting the hydraulic composition or a component of the hydraulic composition with a composition comprising a substituted amine compound (I) in the form of base or salt in addition with an acid. Improving the compressive strength of a cured hydraulic composition, comprises contacting the hydraulic composition or a component of the hydraulic composition with a composition comprising a substituted amine compound of formula ((CH 3) a[Alk](OH)(NH 2) b) (I) in the form of base or salt in addition with an acid. Alk : 3-10C alkyl substituted on the same or different carbon atom of the alkyl by at least one group consisting of CH 3, OH, and NH 2; and a, b : 1-3. An independent claim is included for a method of preparing the cured hydraulic composition, comprising mixing the hydraulic composition or the component of hydraulic composition with the composition comprising (I), in the form of base or salt in addition with an acid.
