PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately recognize characters and symbols input and handwritten with continuous strokes through recognition processing only of a simple form without holding a huge amount of data.SOLUTION: The handwritten musical symbol recognition device includes: touch information acquisition means for acquiring positional information every time input means moves from the contact with a screen to a separation thereof; stroke information storage means for generation vector information showing the movement of the input means and storing a series of vectors from contact of the input means with the screen to a complete separation thereof as one stroke information; connection type storage means for acquiring a connection type of adjacent vectors based on the vector information so as to be stored in a connection type array; dividing means for dividing the vectors before and after an acute angle point in the connection type; stroke shape recognition means for recognizing a stroke shape of the divided vector array; and symbol determination means for determining the symbol based on the recognized stroke shape and the positional relationship thereof.
