PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a cordless telephone unit capable of easily switching between a conversation mode and a remote control mode.SOLUTION: The method of controlling a cordless telephone unit which is used in a system allowing remote control on home electrical appliances. The control method includes: a first generation step in which a voice, which is input through a receiving section provided to a slave unit, is encoded by a first generation section to generate a first stream; and a first transmission step in which the first stream is transmitted to a master unit. The first generation step includes a step to cause the first generation section to generate a piece of instruction bit information and a first instruction stream when a first trigger representing a start request of the remote control is given to the first generation section. The first transmission step includes a step to transmit the instruction bit information and the first instruction stream to the master unit according to a multiplex system common to the first stream which is generated without being given with the first trigger.
