PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydroponic culture medium and a hydroponic culture apparatus that can prevent the growth of molds and insect pests.SOLUTION: A hydroponic culture medium 30 is provided with: a permeable section 2, which is a portion that surrounds the underground section 1A of a plant and holds permeating moisture; and a non-permeable section 3, which is provided so as to surround the permeable section 2 and through which moisture does not permeate. Additionally the hydroponic culture medium 30 is configured from a material that does not contain organic substances. The hydroponic culture apparatus 70 is provided with: a container 6 in which a nutrient solution 60 is stored; the hydroponic culture medium 30 for positioning a plant 1 above the nutrient solution 60 in the container 6 so that the roots of the plant 1 are immersed in the nutrient solution 60; and a medium-supporting member 7, which has a through hole into which the hydroponic culture medium 30 is inserted.
