A data collection device 100 is depicted that monitors the environmental conditions and operation of the medical device 10. The data collection device can be configured to communicate wirelessly with the central computer 210 via a cloud computing environment. The central computer compares this reported usage data with a preventive maintenance model that predicts when and how a medical device will fail. In addition, the central computer can consolidate reports from many data collection devices operating in various environments for the analysis and improvement of predictive maintenance models.
