Useful novel iridium catalyst complex is provided in the dehydrogenation of alkanes . The iridium complex comprises a metal iridium benzimidazolyl -containing ligands are coordinated . The nitrogen atom of the benzimidazolyl -containing ligands coordinated to the iridium atom , can be formed NCN pincer ligand complex . In another form , the dehydrogenation reaction to convert alkanes to olefins , the iridium complex may be used without good or cocatalyst to be used with a cocatalyst .
