PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which can efficiently decompose ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen under the condition that high-concentrated steam exists in a gas, and uses nonnoble metals, highly practical in terms of cost, as active constituents.SOLUTION: The catalyst for decomposing ammonia which decomposes ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen in the presence of steam comprises at least one element (component A) selected from the elements of groups 6-10 of the long-form periodic table, and an oxide and/or complex oxide of at least one element (component B) selected from the elements of groups 2-5 and groups 12-15 of the long-form periodic table.
