The present invention relates generally to the field of testing the quality of the milk. Particularly, the Invention provides a process of testing the quality of the milk by analyzing the concentration of urea in it. The process also extends its application in the detection of mastitis in dairy animals. The invention hrthennore provides a kit for the application of said process. Principle: The urea reacts ith diacdyl (CH; CO. CO. CHI) in hot acid solution at nearly 100'~. which is released from diacetyl monoxime by an oxidatibe condensation reaction. lo give a coloi~redp roduct. Diacetl monoxime is used because of' its greater stibility. The absorbance colour developed is tneasul-ed at 480 nm. 'I'he intensity of the colour developed is proportional to the coilcentration of urea present in the sample.
