The object of the invention is to extract small quantities of palladium from solid materials with a developed surface, including trace amounts of other precious metals such as platinum and the genus, in particular from used catalysts, and in particular automotive converters. The invention consists of the selective separation of the ion complex palladium by the use of sorbent in the form of a hydrophilic acrylic polymer not containing functional groups, which favours a polymer of methacrylic acid ester or sorbent in the form of a hydrophilic polymer of styrene with divinylbenzene, impregnated with phosphoric acids,favourable bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphine or bis (2,4,4 -trimethylpentyl)dithiophosphine, dissolved in acetone. Isolated by the invention of the palladium complex, it is the starting product for the simple and easy extraction of the palladium itself, and the remaining solution obtained in an unchanged composition serves for the further recovery of the precious metal ions contained therein.
