Polymorphisms associated with the degree of unsaturation of intramuscular fat in pigs. # The present invention relates to polymorphisms in the promoter region of the stearyl coenzyme A gene desaturase porcine (SCD) which is related to high levels of monounsaturated fatty acids ( MUFA) in intramuscular fat animal. The invention relates also suitable reagents for the detection of said polymorphism as well as methods for evaluating live animals noninvasively and meat products derived therefrom the presence of high levels of MUFA. The invention also relates to a method for screening pigs with a high degree of unsaturation of fatty acids in the fat intramuscular and / or subcutaneous based on the detection of said polymorphism in progeny resulting from crossing pruners pigs polymorphism.
