This innovation is in the field of project management and project controlssystems for usein compressing projects schedules. Compressing project schedule requiresadditional cost formore resources, when activities are accelerated, or to cover the resultedrework when activitiesare overlapped. This causes schedule compression costlier than normalexecution. However,there are benefits associated with schedule compression as well. This createsa trade-off betweencosts and benefits of schedule compression. Performing this trade-off in realindustrial projects isvery time consuming due to the large number of possible solutions. Aninnovative algorithm andcomputer tool is designed and developed to provide optimum degree ofaccelerating andoverlapping of activities in projects. The developed algorithm provides thebest or close to thebest schedule compression strategy that offers maximum benefit and minimumduration inprojects. The algorithm and computer tool are developed using evolutionaryoptimizationtechniques to optimize the solutions.
