A power transmission system according to the present invention can quickly select an optimum frequency for power transmission and curtail the time to be spent for power transmission. The power transmission system comprises an inverter section (130) for outputting AC power of a predetermined frequency, a power transmission antenna (140) for receiving AC power from the inverter section (130) as input and a control section (150) for controlling the frequency of the AC power output from the inverter section (130) and computationally determining the inverter efficiency of the inverter section (130) for the purpose of transmitting electric energy to a power reception antenna (210) disposed oppositely relative to the power transmission antenna (140) by way of an electromagnetic field and is characterized in that the control section (150) controls the system by computationally determining the inverter efficiency, while lowering the operational frequency from an upper limit frequency by a predetermined unit frequency at a time, and selecting the frequency that provides the highest inverter efficiency for the system to transmit power.
