This lighting evaluation method is provided with a step for switching the state of light emitted by lighting equipment (101) from a non-irradiation state in which the lighting equipment (101) is not applying direct light (L1) to a pupil (E) to an irradiation state in which the lighting equipment (101) is applying direct light (L1) to the pupil (E), a step for continuously photographing the pupil (E) as the state of the light emitted by the lighting equipment (101) changes from the non-irradiation state to the irradiation state, a step for creating time variation data for the pupil diameter during the aforementioned change on the basis of photographed pupil image data, and a step for calculating a glare evaluation value (R) for the direct light (L1) on the basis of the created time variation data for the pupil diameter.
