A method of automatically controlling a remote first data source in response to analyzing data previously received from said first data source, includes receiving data from the remote first data source over a first network connection. The data is acquired under a first data acquisition policy, and stored for analysis. A user manipulates a visual representation of the stored data during analyzing the data. In response to manipulating the visual representation of the data, a second data acquisition policy is transmitted to the remote first data source over a second network connection. The second data acquisition policy is a version of the first data acquisition policy that is automatically modified in response to the manipulation of the visual representation of the stored data during analyzing the data.
