The present invention relates to a vitreous or at least partially crystalline bonding material, which is especially appropriate to be used at high temperature, and to a use thereof. For example, the bonding material can be used for a fuel cell and/or a sensor. The bonding material is a glass-forming material and includes SiO_2, B_2O_3, BaO, and CaO, and accordingly, Al_2O_3 is restricted. A coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the bonding material is 7.010^-6K^-1 in a temperature range of 20-300C. Particularly, the bonding material can be used for bonding ceramic materials such as high quality ferrite steel, alloy containing chrome, stabilized zirconium oxide, and/or aluminum oxide.
