The present invention relates to an extract of deerhed Helianthus anuinus seed useful for the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia and hypertension, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of said extracts and to compositions comprising them. The extract according to the present invention, when added to carbohydrate-based food, reduces blood glucose index and postprandial glucose uptake and causes a change in the lipid profile.
