Disclosed is a method for accelerating terrain rendering using bimodal vertex splitting. The method for accelerating terrain rendering in a graphic processing system creating a terrain mesh through tree search using quadtree triangulation comprises a bimodal vertex splitting step of simultaneously performing a vertex splitting mode for selecting a level of detail and a triangular splitting mode for removing cracks generated between terrain patches having different levels of detail, with respect to vertexes replacing a terrain patch stored in each node; and a vertex converting step of converting the vertexes split in the bimodal vertex splitting step into a terrain mesh.
