FIELD: medicine.;SUBSTANCE: technique involves an ultrasound-aided fine-needle aspiration biopsy of palpable abnormalities in a projection of parathyroids, and making cytological preparations. The cytological preparations are air-dried and stained according to Pappenheim technique. The preparations are examined by a light microscopy at magnification ×40. If observing the number of certain cytomorphological signs specific to parathyroid hyperplasia, secondary hyperparathyroid is diagnosed. If observing the number of certain cytomorphological signs specific to parathyroid adenoma, tertiary hyperparathyroid is diagnosed.;EFFECT: technique is simple, minimally invasive, provides the accurate differential cytomorphological diagnostic of secondary and tertiary hyperparathyroid during the examination before the treatment, at the pre-operative stage, enables selecting the optimum therapeutic approach, avoiding the excessive operative intervention.;2 ex, 4 dwg
