The invention relates to a method for structuring surfaces by machining with energetic radiation (10, 12), in which method, during a machining operation, a first bundle (10) of energetic radiation is directed for a predetermined period of time at the surface to be machined, and machining parameters relating to the first bundle (10) of radiation are chosen such that the first bundle of radiation (10) generates a molten bath (28) in the surface to be machined, wherein at least one second bundle (12) of energetic radiation is superimposed on the first bundle (10), at least in predetermined periods of time, in such a way that it impinges on the surface to be machined, at least to some extent within the extent of the molten bath (28), and machining parameters relating to the at least one second bundle (12) of radiation are chosen such that the molten bath (28) is deformed, in order to achieve structuring of the surface to be machined by means of re-melting. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method.
