PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a hydrophobic coating on a base by a thermal spray deposition process.SOLUTION: The method comprises the steps of: supplying a coating precursor consisting of particles having an initial particle form to a thermal spray apparatus; heating the particles using the thermal spray apparatus to melt at least a part of the particles; accelerating the particles toward a base; and forming a hydrophobic coating on the base by colliding the particles with the base in the partially molten state that at least a part of some particles in the initial particle form are held.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
