PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst which suppresses reduction in NOX removal activity in a lean region where an excess air ratio λ is greater than 1, and exhibits remarkably improved performance compared to a Rh-supporting zirconia.;SOLUTION: An exhaust gas purification catalyst carrier includes a phosphate salt represented by the general formula MPO4 (where M represents Y, La, or Al), or a zirconium phosphate represented by the formula ZrP2O7. An exhaust gas purification catalyst contains a noble metal at least containing Rh and supported on the carrier.
