PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new technique for preserving microorganisms.;SOLUTION: There is provided a method for preserving a microorganism capable of microbially producing a polyunsaturated fatty acid or a compound comprising a polyunsaturated fatty acid as a constituent fatty acid. The method comprises: (a) forming spores in a spore-forming medium of pH 4-7 containing a nutrient source comprising an inorganic salt and a sugar; (b) preparing a spore suspension by suspending the spores obtained by the step (a) in sterilized water or sterilized water containing a surfactant and/or an inorganic salt, and adding a cryopreservant so as to prepare a cryopreserved spore suspension having cryopreservant concentration of 5-15%; and (c) preserving the cryopreserved suspension obtained by the step (b) at a temperature between -100°C and -20°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
