A method for operating an electronic device is provided. The method includes analyzing text to recognize at least one named entity, compare the recognized at least one named entity with at least one piece of reference information to determine the similarity, as a result of the determination, selecting at least one piece of reference information of which the similarity with respect to the recognized at least one named entity is greater than or equal to a reference value, and executing a predetermined function, based on the selected at least one piece of reference information.
