In the present invention, there is disclosed a method of measuring straightness of holes characterized in that first a reflector (8) is slidably introduced into the hole (20) to be measured. Subsequently, a beam (1A) of electromagnetic radiation is transmitted on the reflector (8) and the reflector (8) is moved through the measured hole (20) past the measured hole (20) axis such that the movement thereof copies roughness of the measured hole (20). Irregularities become evident in the reflector (8) side deviation, which causes side deviation of a beam (1B) reflected from the reflector (8), whereupon this side deviation is detected by a detector (5). Apparatus for making the above-described method comprises a source (2) for transmission of a beam (1A) of electromagnetic radiation into a hole (20) to be measured, a reflector (8), a device for longitudinal feed of the reflector (8) through the measured hole (20) and a detector (5) of reflected beam (1B) position.
