Methods of alleviating the symptoms of a subject with a neurodegenerative disorder are provided, including administering to the subject an effective amount of an isolated binding molecule that specifically binds to 4D semaphorin (SEMA4D) or its plexin-B1 and plexin-B2 receptors.
