The present invention discloses a product and a process for gas detection comprising one optical detector for sensing the presence of methane gas mounted at one end of the platform and one radiation source mounted at another end of the platform. The detector and the radiation source are mounted on a platform and are positioned opposite each other, wherein the light from the source passes through an aqueous medium in which the presence of methane has to be detected. The whole detection device is mounted on housing.
