A ready-to-use product comprising a composition comprising at least 18 grams (g) (dry weight) of fermented cereal; and at least 1 x 1011 colony forming units (cfu) of Lactobacillus plantarum cells selected from Lactobacillus plantarum 299 and Lactobacillus plantarum 299v; for use in a method for the treatment of a patient affected by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); wherein the treatment comprises a daily administration of the composition to the patient.
