A coupling forconnecting an air supply to a respiratorysupport device has a latching mechanismwhich prevents the coupling frominadvertently axially displacing fromthe respiratory support device after theyhave been mated in a pneumaticallydiscrete path. Non-axial forces areused to disengage the coupling from therespiratory support device. The couplingmay include a trailing end adapter whichpermits rotation of the coupling relativeto the air supply rather than to therespiratory support device.
