The present invention provides a method and base station for determining channel quality indicator (CQI) in coordinated multi-point transmission. The method comprises: receiving a first CQI reported by a user equipment (UE), wherein the first CQI is determined according to the downlink common reference signal (CRS) of the serving cell of the UE; obtaining the reference signal reception power (RSRP) corresponding to the reference signal that the UE can receive; determining a compensation value according to the RSRP, wherein the compensation value is used for indicating the difference between the quality of channel for transmitting the CRS and the quality of downlink data channel of the UE; determining a second CQI of the downlink data channel of the UE according to the compensation value and the first CQI. By compensating for on the CQI reported by the UE, in the embodiments of the present invention, the CQI of the downlink data channel in coordinated multi-point transmission can be rapidly determined, and furthermore, system performance can be improved.
