A method of foot characterisation for fabrication of an orthotic insole, the method comprising the steps of: obtaining footprints of the user under squat or stand stance, the footprints having a lateral zone and a medial zone; measuring the maximum width of the forefoot and the maximum width of the hindfoot and determining a ratio of the maximum width of the forefoot to the maximum width of the hindfoot; and determining positions of two reflexology points corresponding to C6 of cervical region and L5 of lumbar region of the spinal column and measuring the distance between the two reflexology points and equally dividing the distance so as to distinguish the segments of the foot associated with each vertebra of the spinal column from the cervical region to lumbar region.
