The invention relates to a pigmented aqueous base coat containing a carboxy-functional dimer fatty acid-based reaction product which can be produced by reacting (a) dimer fatty acids with (b) at least one compound of general structural formula (I) where R represents a C₃- to C₆ alkylene group and n is accordingly selected such that polyether (b) has a number average molecular weight of 120 to 6000 g/mol , components (a) and (b) are used at a molar ratio of at least 1/1, and the resulting reaction product has a number average molecular weight of 1000 to 20000 g/mol and an acid number of 0 mg to 120 mg KOH/g.
