The present invention provides a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a phosphinoamine compound represented by formula (1) and a lithium ion secondary cell that uses the nonaqueous electrolyte. Oxidative decomposition in the nonaqueous electrolyte is inhibited and gas generation is inhibited by adding a phosphinoamine compound to the nonaqueous electrolyte.
