The invention relates to a home automation system having at least one control unit (2) for controlling components of the home automation system (1); at least one communication apparatus (4) which interacts with the control unit (2) and can be used to establish a communication link (401, 402) between the control unit (2) and at least one component (3) of the home automation system (1). According to the invention, the communication apparatus (4) is designed, upon receiving a communication signal from the control unit (2) which is intended for the component (3) of the home automation system (1), to assess the communication signal and, on the basis of the assessment, either to forward the communication signal immediately to the component (3) or to forward said signal at a subsequent time, or to dispense with the forwarding. The invention also relates to a communication apparatus for a home automation system and to a method for operating a home automation system.
