The invention relates to a method for operating an elevator system, which is designed as a shaft-changing, multi-cabin system, wherein a number of cabins (100) is allocated to at least three elevator shafts (110, 120, 130, 140, 150), wherein the cabins (100) can travel in the upward and downward direction within the individual elevator shafts (110, 120, 130, 140, 150) and between the individual elevator shafts. A successive reversal of the travel directions of the respective cabins occurs.
