The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a silicon-based carbon nanofiber composite using an iron-copper based catalyst and a method for manufacturing a secondary battery using the same. The method for manufacturing a silicon-based carbon nanofiber composite using an iron-copper based catalyst comprises the following steps: (a) forming binary transition metal catalyst powder by using a catalyst compound in which iron nitrate and copper nitrate are mixed at a certain weight ratio; (b) dip coating a nickel foam with a solution in which silicon powder and the transition metal catalyst powder are mixed, and then vacuum-drying; and (c) performing chemical vapor deposition on the dip coated nickel foam to synthesize a carbon nanofiber. Thus, the present invention provides a method for manufacturing a carbon nanofiber by chemical vapor deposition using a Fe-Cu binary catalyst, and furthermore, provides a method for synthesizing or manufacturing a Si-CNFs composite by mixing Si particles and the Fe-Cu catalyst, thereby providing a method for simply and easily preparing a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery having good electrochemical properties. In addition, the present invention provides a method for manufacturing a high quality lithium secondary battery having high charge-discharge efficiency, high capacity, and long lifetime by using the prepared negative electrode active material.
