The present invention relates to a fuel cell and a method for manufacturing the fuel cell, and more particularly to a fuel cell, in which a portion of a gas diffusion layer communicating with a channel of a separation plate is made of hydrophilic material and a portion of the gas diffusion layer coming into contact with a land of the separation plate is made of hydrophobic material, thereby preventing a flooding phenomenon, and to a method for manufacturing the fuel cell. The fuel cell comprises an electrolyte film, a catalyst layer, a gas diffusion layer, and a separation plate. In the gas diffusion layer, a portion of the gas diffusion layer communicating with a channel of the separation plate is formed to be a hydrophilic region and a portion of the gas diffusion layer coming into contact with a land of the separation plate is formed to be a hydrophobic region. Accordingly, water distribution can be uniformly controlled throughout the overall area of the gas diffusion layer; a flooding phenomenon attributable to excessive water in the gas diffusion layer can be prevented; and a phenomenon in which the electrolyte film is dried can be also prevented.
