The present invention relates to a composition including α-cubebenoate derived from Schisandra chinensis as an active ingredient, and more particularly to a pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing sepsis or septic shock including α-cubebenoate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, and a health functional food for preventing or alleviating sepsis or septic shock including α-cubebenoate as an active ingredient. The α-cubebenoate according to the present invention exhibits, in a sepsis model, pulmonary inflammation block, bactericidal activity through phagocytosis and induction of hydrogen peroxide production, and an effect of blocking proinflammatory cytokine production, so that it is expected that the α-cubebenoate can be usefully applied to treatment of sepsis or septic shock.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
