TCP ENHANCEMENT WITH LIMITED LICENSED CHANNEL USAGE FOR WIRELESS NETWORKS

Methods, systems and devices for operating a communication system using both an authorized frequency band and a unlicensed frequency band are described. The unlicensed spectrum may be used as the primary band for transmitting data packets and the TCP may be implemented for selectively transmitting (e.g., retransmitting) a subset of data packets transmitted over the grant spectrum. Selective transmission of a subset of data packets via the permission spectrum may be based on a transmitter that does not receive and acknowledge a message in response to one or more transmitted data packets on the unlicensed spectrum. The selective retransmission may be based on transmitter detection interference and / or may be based on receiver reporting information regarding channel conditions. In some cases, the transmitter may simultaneously receive channel condition information for both the grant spectrum and the unlicensed spectrum. In other cases, the unlicensed spectrum may be used for data packet transmission and the permission spectrum may be used for ACK messages.
