ACCESS POINT LOCATION DISCOVERY IN UNMANAGED NETWORKS

Embodiments of an access point location system and method in an unmanaged network are generally described herein. If a device wants to determine its indoor location, it must know the exact location of the network infrastructure involved in the measurement. In the interior, it is the location of access points (APs) that must be notified to the device in order to triangulate its position. A system and method for accurately locating accurate locations of network APs is disclosed. The AP attaches a neighbor list with location information by performing a Wi-Fi scan to receive the media access control address and radio channel of the neighboring AP. Then, the interested AP queries its position and receives the position information to acquire the position of this AP neighbor. Finally, the received neighbor location is verified for accuracy and reliability using propagation time measurements.;
