The present invention relates to an automatic paper size adjusting device for an image forming apparatus and a method thereof. The automatic paper size adjusting device, which is an automatic customized paper size adjusting device optionally added to the image forming apparatus, comprises: a scanner; a paper size storage memory storing the size scanned by the scanner; a motor controller processor generating commands for adjusting the size detected from the paper size storage memory to an automatic paper feeder and a paper guide of a cassette; a motor for moving the paper guide of the automatic paper feeder according to the commands of the motor controller processor; a motor for moving the paper guide of the cassette according to the commands of the motor controller processor; a UI processor receiving data from the paper size storage memory and displaying the same on a display; and an PC transmission processor transmitting the data received from the paper size storage memory to a PC to enable a user to use the same. The automatic paper size adjusting device can prevent a paper jam or paper skew in advance by setting the arrangement of the paper guide uniform when customized sized papers are used in the image forming apparatus, and skip the same procedure by storing the width of the paper in the memory if the same sized paper is used in the future.
