A collision mitigation apparatus is mounted on an own vehicle and mitigates a collision between the own vehicle and an obstacle. The collision mitigation apparatus obtains information indicating that the own vehicle will turn right at a road intersection or turn left. When the information indicating that the own vehicle will turn right or turn left at a road intersection will be obtained, the collision mitigation apparatus sets a target area on a predicted route of the own vehicle on the road intersection. The collision mitigation apparatus determines whether or not an obstacle that becomes an obstacle to traveling of the own vehicle exists in or enters the target area. When the obstacle exists in or enters the target area, the collision mitigation apparatus performs an output to mitigate a collision between the own vehicle and the obstacle.
