The present invention relates to a tidal turbine comprising a generatrix coupled to a rotor supporting blades animated in rotation by a marine current and capable of generating an electric current. This tidal turbine also comprises means for measuring the speed of rotation of the rotor; at least one electromagnetic retarder attached to the rotor and adapted to reduce rotor speed; a rotational speed control unit of the rotor receiving signals from the rotor speed measuring means and transmitting control signals to the electromagnetic retarder to slow the rotation of the rotor when the measured speed exceeds a determined value. In this way, the speed of the rotor is regulated to reach an almost constant value and thus provide a determined nominal energy. The use of an electromagnetic retarder avoids the use of mechanical contacts to regulate the speed and premature wear of these contacts.
