PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of solubilization by phosphorylating an insoluble biological macromolecule, particularly chitin and collagen.SOLUTION: Chitin and collagen can be phosphorylated and made soluble by: suspending chitin or collagen in a particular dispersion medium; phosphorylating the suspended chitin or collagen in the presence of a catalyst; and separating the phosphorylated chitin or collagen. Said particular dispersion medium is an aprotic solvent when phosphorylating chitin or insoluble collagen and is a phosphate buffer solution having a concentration of 0.5 mol/L or more and 1.0 mol/L or less when phosphorylating collagen.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
