PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode plate group insertion device and method which allow for insertion of an electrode plate group into a battery case cell without widening an opening of the battery case cell forcibly, and without buckling an ear part of the electrode plate.SOLUTION: An electrode plate group pressure insertion device 11 inserts a part of an electrode plate group 7 into a battery case cell 5 from an opening 3 thereof, while pressing the electrode plate group 7 in the lamination direction with a predetermined pressing force, so that the thickness in the lamination direction becomes smaller than a width W1 of the opening. An electrode plate group push-in device 13 pushes the electrode plate group 7 into the battery case cell 5, from a state where a part of the electrode plate group 7 is inserted into the battery case cell 5. The electrode plate group pressure insertion device 11 weakens the pressing force, when the electrode plate group 7 is pushed into the battery case cell 5 by the electrode plate group push-in device 13. The electrode plate group pressure insertion device 11 brings the pressing force to 0 in the way of the process for inserting the electrode plate group into the battery case cell, and the electrode plate group push-in device 13 increases the push-in speed after the pressing force is brought to 0.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
