For generating a landscape texture of a geographical map, a plurality of images captured by one or more hand-held devices (10) equipped with a camera are obtained. Further, additional data associated with each of the captured images are obtained. These additional data include a geographical position of the camera when capturing the image, inner camera orientation data representing properties of the camera when capturing the image, e.g., a focal distance, a camera constant, and/or a position of an image principal point, exterior camera orientation data representing an orientation of the camera when capturing the image, e.g., an angle (¦) representing an orientation of an optical axis (A) of the camera with respect to a horizontal plane (PH) and a barometric height of the camera when capturing the image. On the basis of the barometric height and the geographical position, a ground height (H) of the camera above a ground surface (G) is determined. On the basis of the ground height (H), the inner camera orientation data and the exterior camera orientation data, each of the images is distorted so as to obtain a projection onto the ground surface (G). The distorted images are then registered, and the landscape texture is generated from the distorted images
