PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode plate for high-capacity and long-life lead storage batteries by increasing the porosity of a positive electrode active material while suppressing the reduction in the strength of the active material.SOLUTION: A positive electrode plate comprises an active material. The active material of the positive electrode plate has a porosity of 45-60% in its as-chemically-synthesised state. Tetrabasic lead sulfate-originating lead dioxide crystalline which arises in a section of the positive electrode plate in the as-chemically-synthesised state accounts for 13-48% in area. The porosity is preferably 56-59%, and the area that the lead dioxide crystalline accounts for is 15-43%. The positive electrode plate like this can be manufactured by controlling various parameters, e.g. the additive agent to be selected in a process of manufacturing the positive electrode plate, the amount of the additive agent blended in preparing paste of the positive electrode active material, the addition amounts of water and diluted sulfuric acid, and the conditions for conditioning and drying the electrode plate.
