Summary "Silica-containing alumina supports, catalysts made from them and processes using the same" alumina support compositions comprising at least 0.1% by weight of silica are disclosed. Alumina supports are characterized by a pore volume greater than 0.60 cm 3 / g, an average pore size ranging from about 70 å to about 120 å, a pore size distribution such that at least At least 90% of the total pore volume falls within the range of about 20 å to about 250 å, and a pore size distribution width of no less than about 40 å. The alumina compositions of the present invention exhibit a major peak mode with a pore diameter smaller than the average pore diameter. Also provided are catalysts obtained from the alumina supports, and processes for preparing and using the supports and catalysts.
