The present invention relates to a recombinant replication competent retrovirus and the use thereof. The recombinant retrovirus of the present invention is able to transform a human target cell with a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide having cytosine deaminase activity and increased stability in human cells, that catalyzes the conversion of exogenous 5-fluorocytosine to 5-fluorouracil providing cytotoxic effect. Said recombinant retrovirus is used with 5-fluorocytosine to produce a medicament for treating a subject with a cell proliferative disorder.
