Described chemical compounds, which are compounds of formula (I) or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts; where Y, R, R, R, R, X, X, X, R, Z and Z have the values described herein, and stereochemical configurations in the positions marked with asterisks indicate the absolute configuration. The chemical compounds of the present invention may be useful as SUMO-activating enzyme (SAE) inhibitors. Additionally, there are pharmaceutical compositions containing a compound in accordance with the present invention, and methods of using said compositions in the treatment of proliferative, inflammatory, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases or disorders.
